Gary A. Robinson
Gary A. Robinson received a B.F.A. from the
University of Connecticut, Education Certification
earned at Hartt School of Music, an M.M. in
Instrumental Conducting from Mississippi College,
and a D.M.A. in Orchestral Conducting from the
University of South Carolina. He received additional
training in orchestral conducting from Symphony
School of America, the Florida Festival Conductors
Symposium, and the Conductors Guild Conducting
Institute.
Robinson has served on the faculty of the Fine Arts
Center of Greenville, South Carolina, and has been
the Director of Greenville County Youth Orchestra
since 1985. He also serves as Director of
Greenville’s Foothills Philharmonic, a post he has
held since 2000.
Robinson has appeared as a guest conductor with the
Greenville Symphony Orchestra on numerous occasions
and has served as its Artistic Program Advisor. In
addition, Robinson has served on the conducting
staff of Carolina Youth Symphony, and has held
conducting posts with the Metropolitan Chamber
Orchestra of Jackson, Mississippi (Founder and
Director), Nutmeg Summer Theater in Storrs,
Connecticut (Music Director), the 1993 and 1997 SC
All-State orchestras. He has appeared as Guest
Conductor with the Hendersonville (NC) Symphony
Orchestra.
As a music faculty member of Greenville’s Fine Arts
Center, he teaches percussion, band instruments, and
Advanced Placement Music Theory. He has held adjunct
positions as a percussion instructor at Limestone
College, at the University of Connecticut, and at
Furman University. Robinson has also served a band
director in Mississippi public and private schools.
He has performed as an orchestral percussionist
since 1977 in Connecticut, Mississippi, Florida, and
South Carolina, as well as with the American Wind
Symphony Orchestra of Pittsburgh, PA. He currently
performs with the Greenville Symphony Orchestra.
